Composer and sonic
experimentalist Tom
Green (aka another fine day) returns
to the world of released music with his first offering of new
material since his Six Degrees release Salvage in 2000. Salvage
gave the world the most stunning, off beat, and infamous take
on Scarborough Fair ever recorded, as attested to by BBC Radio
3's Mixing It.
As ever, Tom
Green finds his inspiration through nature on the
title track of the EP. What would you expect of a Dorset boy,
matured in Brixton, and gardening for real on a windy South London
hill? Chasing Tornados is a classic slice of ambient sound styling,
expertly laden with characteristically delicate jazz-infused piano
lines, thumb piano, and a hypnotic dub-inspired bass line.
The career connections
become clearer once you realise that Tom Green has worked with
The Orb, Baka Beyond, Hyperborea and spent a few years touring
with Abdul TJ’s African Culture (hence the lasting preference
for polyrhythms).
In the last few years he has written and
recorded the album MRI Scanner Music, which is installed in St
Mary’s Children’s Hospital in Bristol, where it is
designed to calm and distract children who are having MRI Scans,
as well completing various TV commissions for Channel 4 and Irish
TV station RTE (Eire). He has also set up anotherfinelabel, which
will be re-issuing the classic another fine day debut album Life
Before Land in 2005, and is currently working on an album of new
material.
Chasing Tornados will be launched at the
Big Chill Bar in London on December 2nd 2004 where another fine
day will fill the place with exceptional sound, supported by a
cast of loving DJ’s (Pete Lawrence, Pathaan and Matt Black)
??? to celebrate the release of the EP, and the official launch
of anotherfinelabel. Chasing Tornados is a hymn to the urban explorer,
searching for a better connection with the power of nature, and
getting some fresh air into today’s urban music. Put your
coat on and go outside, somethin's a’brewing…
